Calling all Feminists! Contribute to Feminist Magazine on KPFK!

FemMag cover

WHO:Feminist Magazine,” our weekly radio show on Pacifica station KPFK Los Angeles 90.7 FM, is looking for New Contributors and Producers.

WHAT: Have you been wanting to get involved in radical media-making? Do you ache for a chance to broadcast stories that don’t get heard in mainstream media? If you think feminist media is important, we’d like YOU to help us make it!

HOW: This is a chance to cover stories about issues, organizations and people you believe in. And it’s a chance to wrestle with new ideas and engage with fabulous guests who are doing what they can to educate, advocate, activate, and agitate for progressive social change.

We are always looking to grow our membership to include new voices, viewpoints, skills, backgrounds, and feminism(s). We are especially committed to creating more opportunities for women and girls, trans* and queer people, feminists of color and feminists of all ages, sizes, and abilities to broadcast their perspectives on the airwaves. Please help contribute to the growth of feminist media-making and pass along to someone you think might be perfect for this opportunity.

WHERE: Though we are based in Los Angeles, we will consider contributions from folks anywhere in the country or the world who have access to a studio or field recording equipment and can record high quality pieces for Feminist Magazine.

Please read the guidelines and instructions for getting involved here.

This is what feminism sounds like!

Currently we have six active FemMag members who are responsible for a range of jobs, from program producing and hosting, to on-air producing/engineering, news research, audio editing, web & social media outreach, etc.

We’re expanding to include participation at a variety of levels:

  1. Regular Contributors
  2. Guest Contributors
  3. Partner Producers who are already creating feminist radio via podcast, community radio etc, and want to partner with us to re-broadcast segments that fit into our mission.

Read the details here.

fm_buttonWHO WE ARE: Feminist Magazine is the weekly Southern California radio show with feminist perspectives, broadcasting local and global news and features about people making a radical difference. We emphasize stories about the transformative nature of collective action.

We’re committed to making feminist media & giving a voice to feminism(s) in LA & SoCal, as well as national & global perspectives. We prioritize bringing women and girls’ voices to the air to balance gender inequities in radio in general. But we define Feminist Radio as not just being about women’s voices — it’s also about what we choose to cover and how we choose to cover that story.

OUR MISSION: Feminist Magazine is on the air to educate, advocate, inform, and entertain through a variety of feminist  lenses. We provide the tools necessary to implement feminist analysis and action via interviews, commentaries, performances, news, open dialogs and other features involving activists, academics and artists, and more.
