What does it mean to be a radical doula? Miriam Zoila Pérez, author of The Radical Doula Guide: A Political Primer for Full Spectrum Pregnancy and Childbirth Support and Pati Garcia aka Chula Doula and initiator of the Shodhini Institute — a self-help based research collective focused on sexual health liberation — talk gender, abortion, and why checking out your cervix makes you a better doula.
Pérez is a Cuban-American writer, activist and full-spectrum doula who writes about race, health and gender for various publications (including the blog Radical Doula) and lives in Washington, DC. As a queer, gender variant latin@, full-spectrum doula and Sexological Bodyworker, Pati seeks to bridge the gap between body autonomy and traditional healing modalities so that an individual’s dignity and self-knowing is kept intact. They’ll tell us how they bring a radical lens to doula work and about their work towards sexual health liberation in queer, trans and communities of color.
