I just found out that School Sprouts: Birth of a Garden, won the Audience Choice Award at the Media Institute for Social Change‘s 4th Annual Student Sustainability Film Festival! The film was created when I worked with School Sprouts at the Zanetti Montessori Magnet School in Springfield, Massachusetts, and edited using footage that these amazing young gardeners, musicians and filmmakers had shot themselves while we built our garden together in a parking lot.
I submitted the film to the Green Living Project festival while a student at Antioch University Los Angeles, and was pleasantly surprised to hear it had been screened in Portland, OR at a partner event. The grand prize went to Kieran Wallace’s film, Sustainer, a really cool promo for a product that can reduce “take-out waste.”
See the Media Institute for Social Change’s Facebook post about it. Thanks to these organizations for spreading the word and highlighting short films that inspire sustainability and environmental justice!
