YOUR NEW HOME MOVING CHECKLIST
Congratulations on your new home! You did it!
Here are some helpful things to remember in the whirlwind of your move:
- Get the keys & change the locks (pro tip: Lowe’s can re-key new locks you get at the store to all have the same key. Also Home Warranty plan sometimes offers re-key service)
- Transfer utilities to your name (electric, water, gas, internet – LA-specific info here)
- Log into your mortgage account & set up payments
- Open up a joint “house bank account” to pay for mortgage, insurance, taxes, bills, repairs (if you don’t already have one!)
- Create a home expenses budget
- Hire movers or your friends!
- Set up USPS mail forwarding and informed delivery
- Change your address on all your accounts including banks and credit cards
- Introduce yourself to the neighbors and leave them your contact information (and maybe cookies!)
- Make any repairs you want to do before moving in & make an ongoing list of trusty plumbers, handymen, electricians, pest control, etc. to keep handy
- Plant a plant or tree to remember this first year of your home
- Host a housewarming party! (I’d love to be there so I can bring you your gift!)
